Ten documents, printed in full
These are working documents from a services business: the contracts, forms and checklists that sit between a client saying yes and a client paying the invoice. Each one is on the page in full, and downloads as an editable Word file with notes on every clause that matters. No email, no sign-up.
- Statement of work
A software project SOW issued under an MSA: deliverables, acceptance, fees, change control.
- Scope of work (short form)
Two pages for work under $25k. In scope, out of scope, assumptions, price.
- Master services agreement
The standing terms every SOW sits under: payment, IP, liability, termination.
- Retainer agreement
Monthly hours, rollover, overage, notice. The retainer that does not turn into free work.
- Change request form
One page that turns "can you just" into a priced decision with a signature.
- Consulting agreement
For advisory work sold by the day or the engagement.
- Client onboarding checklist
Signature to first invoice, in order, with nothing left to memory.
- Project kickoff agenda
A timed agenda and the decisions you leave the room with.
- IP assignment and code ownership addendum
What the client owns, what you keep, and the schedule that proves it.
- Fixed price vs time and materials decision sheet
Score the project, pick the model, set the contingency.
How to use them
Start with the master services agreement. It is signed once and holds the terms that never change between projects: payment, ownership, liability, how either side leaves. Each project then gets a statement of work, or the short-form scope of work when the job is small. When the client asks for something new, the change request form prices it before anyone builds it.
The templates default to US law, with a placeholder for the state. UK and EU versions follow. How the documents fit together is covered in the contracts section.
These are working documents from a practitioner. Have a lawyer in your jurisdiction review them before you sign.
